Caphosol Dosage

People who receive the prescription mouth rinse Caphosol may be advised to rinse their mouth 2 to 10 times daily, depending on the reason they are using it and how they respond to it. Caphosol comes in two separate ampules, which must be mixed immediately before each dose. Although it is not expected to cause dangerous problems, do not swallow this liquid.

An Introduction to Dosing With Caphosol

The dosage of Caphosol® (supersaturated calcium phosphate rinse) your healthcare provider recommends may vary, depending on a few different factors, such as:
  • The reason you are using the medicine
  • How you respond to it.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

What Is the Recommended Caphosol Dosage?

Each dose of Caphosol consists of two ampules -- one blue (Caphosol A) and one white (Caphosol B). To use this medication, you will need to mix the contents of the two ampules in a glass immediately before each dose.
After mixing, rinse with half the medicine by swishing it around the inside of your mouth for one minute, then spit the liquid out. Repeat with the remainder of the medicine by swishing for another minute and spitting the liquid out.
The usual recommended dosage of Caphosol for the treatment of mouth and throat dryness, regardless of the cause, is one dose used 2 to 10 times a day. People who are using the medicine for mucositis (mouth sores) from radiation or chemotherapy treatment will normally use it at least 4 times a day and up to 10 times a day if needed. It is generally recommended that treatment with Caphosol begin the first day you receive chemotherapy or radiation, and continue until radiation or chemotherapy treatment is complete.
You should not use Caphosol more than 10 times a day, unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare provider.
