Zortress Drug Interactions

P-Glycoprotein (Pgp) Inhibitors
P-glycoprotein is a natural protein that helps remove substances, such as medications, out of the body tissues, so they can be excreted through the urine or feces. Pgp helps remove Zortress from the body. Certain other medications known as Pgp inhibitors decrease the activity of Pgp.

Taking Zortress with one of these Pgp inhibitors causes Zortress to be removed from the body more slowly, potentially increasing Zortress blood levels, and increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take Zortress with a Pgp inhibitor, and lower your dose if needed.

Pimecrolimus
Taking Zortress with pimecrolimus may increase your risk for potentially serious Zortress side effects, including infection and skin cancer. Although the risk for these serious side effects is rare, it is generally recommended that pimecrolimus not be used with medicines that weaken the immune system, including Zortress.

Sipuleucel-T
Sipuleucel-T works by stimulating the immune system, while Zortress is considered an immunosuppressant because it suppresses the immune system. Therefore, Zortress could potentially decrease the effectiveness of sipuleucel-T. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Tacrolimus
Taking Zortress with tacrolimus may increase your risk for potentially serious Zortress side effects, including infections and skin cancer. Although the risk for these serious side effects is rare, it is generally recommended that tacrolimus not be used with medicines that weaken the immune system, including Zortress.

Trastuzumab
Taking Zortress with trastuzumab may increase your risk for certain blood cell problems, including anemia (a decrease in red blood cells) and leukopenia (a decrease in white blood cells). Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. He or she may choose to monitor you more closely, with simple blood tests.
