Zortress Drug Interactions

Zortress Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when Zortress is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

ACE Inhibitors
Zortress may increase the risk of a potentially serious reaction to ACE inhibitors known as angioedema. This condition causes swelling beneath the skin, usually around the lips and eyes. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop swelling of the face or neck, welts, or breathing problems while taking Zortress with an ACE inhibitor, as this reaction is potentially life-threatening.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Zortress using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Some medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Combining Zortress with one of these CYP 3A4 inducers may decrease the level of Zortress in your body, potentially making it less effective.

Medications considered strong CYP 3A4 inducers should not be combined with Zortress at all, including rifabutin (Mycobutin®) and rifampin (Rifadin®). Other CYP 3A4 inducers may require a Zortress dosage adjustment, especially when you first start or stop taking the CYP 3A4 inducer.

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The liver breaks down Zortress using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Some medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Combining Zortress with one of these CYP 3A4 inhibitors may increase the level of Zortress in your body, potentially increasing your risk for side effects.

Your healthcare provider may need to monitor your blood level of Zortress if you start or stop a CYP 3A4 inhibitor, and adjust your Zortress dose as needed. Medications considered strong CYP 3A4 inhibitors should not be taken with Zortress, including but not limited to:
