Zortress Dosage

Your recommended dose of Zortress will depend on the type of transplant you have, other medications you are taking, other medical conditions you have, and various other factors. The initial dosage is typically 0.75 mg or 1 mg taken twice daily, with about 12 hours between doses. Your amount may be adjusted based on your blood levels of Zortress.

An Introduction to Dosing With Zortress

The dosage of Zortress® (everolimus) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Which type of transplant you have (liver or kidney)
  • How you respond to Zortress
  • Other medications you are taking
  • Other medical conditions you have.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Zortress Dosage Guidelines for Kidney Transplant

The recommended initial Zortress dose to prevent kidney transplant rejection is Zortress 0.75 mg twice a day, taken in combination with cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®) and prednisone. The medications will be started as soon as possible after your kidney transplant.

People who take Zortress will receive lower doses of cyclosporine. This is to decrease the risk of kidney damage that can occur when standard cyclosporine transplant-rejection doses are used with Zortress.

Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your initial dosage, based on your blood levels of this medication. The recommended Zortress blood level is 3 to 8 nanograms per milliliter (ng per mL). If your blood levels are outside of this range, your healthcare provider may adjust your dose every four to five days, until you have the recommended amount of the medicine in your blood.

People with moderate liver disease will receive smaller initial doses of Zortress. However, dosage adjustments will still be based on blood concentrations.
