Drug Interactions With Ziv-Aflibercept

Combining ziv-aflibercept with clozapine may lead to severely low while blood cell counts, increasing the risk for dangerous infections. Although this is basically the only known drug that can react adversely with ziv-aflibercept, more interactions may discovered in the future, so make sure your healthcare provider has a current list of all products you are taking.

An Overview of Ziv-Aflibercept Interactions

Studies have not been done to determine if ziv-aflibercept (Zaltrap®) interacts with other medications. In general, it is not thought to react with most other products. However, ziv-aflibercept may interact with clozapine (Clozaril®, FazaClo®).

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Ziv-Aflibercept

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when ziv-aflibercept is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Using ziv-aflibercept and clozapine together may increase the risk of dangerously low white blood cell counts and potentially serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking clozapine during ziv-aflibercept treatment. However, do not stop taking clozapine unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Chemotherapy Medicines
Ziv-aflibercept is normally given in combination with chemotherapy medicines, specifically leucovorin, 5-fluorouracil (Adrucil®, Carac®, Efudex®, Fluoroplex®, also known as 5-FU), and irinotecan (Camptosar®). Based on the available information, ziv-aflibercept does not appear to interact with 5-fluorouracil or irinotecan.

Final Thoughts

Even though ziv-aflibercept is currently believed to have very few, if any, potential drug interactions, it is important to understand that it has not been systematically studied with other medications. Therefore, interactions may be discovered in the future.
Talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about the specific drug interactions that may apply to you. Also, make sure your healthcare provider knows about all vitamins, herbal supplements, and prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking.
