Zanosar Drug Interactions

Live Vaccinations
In general, people using Zanosar should not receive live vaccines (vaccines that contain live viruses or bacteria). This is because you may be more susceptible to infections during Zanosar treatment. As a result, you could become infected with the virus or bacteria used to make the live vaccine. Also, live vaccines may be less effective in people receiving Zanosar. Talk to your healthcare provider before getting a vaccination during chemotherapy treatment.
Medicines That Are Toxic to the Kidneys
Because Zanosar can cause kidney damage, using it with other medicines that can cause kidney damage should generally be avoided or done with extreme caution. Your healthcare provider can tell you if any of your medicines can cause kidney damage.
Medicines That Lower Blood Glucose Levels
Zanosar can cause hypoglycemia (low blood glucose). Combining it with other medicines that lower blood glucose could cause your blood glucose levels to become too low. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you have diabetes, or if you take any medicine that may decrease your blood glucose levels.
Phenytoin has been reported to decrease the effectiveness of Zanosar. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you take these drugs together.
Zanosar can make sipuleucel-T less effective. This is because sipuleucel-T is thought to work by stimulating the body's immune system, while Zanosar may decrease the activity of the immune system. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction before using these medicines together.
