Vincasar PFS Dosage

Your healthcare provider will use your weight and height to calculate your Vincasar PFS dosage. Other factors he or she will consider when determining an appropriate amount include other medical conditions you may have and how well you tolerate the medicine. This chemotherapy drug comes as an injection that is given into a vein once a week.

An Introduction to Dosing With Vincasar PFS

The dose of Vincasar PFS® (vincristine sulfate) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, such as:

  • Your age
  • Your height and weight
  • How you tolerate the medication
  • Other medical conditions you may have.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

What Is the Recommended Vincasar PFS Dosage?

Like many chemotherapy medicines, Vincasar PFS doses are usually based on body surface area, which is normally calculated using your height and weight. Doses based on body surface area are written as milligrams per meter squared (mg per m2).

The usual recommended dosage of Vincasar PFS for the treatment of cancer in adults is 1.4 mg per m2 once a week. A typical amount for cancer treatment in adults is 2 mg weekly. There is no widely accepted maximum Vincasar PFS dose in adults.

The usual recommended amount for children who weigh more than 10 kg (22 lbs) is 1.5 mg to 2 mg per m2 once a week. Children who weigh 10 kg (22 lbs) or less are generally started on Vincasar PFS 0.5 mg per kg (about 0.23 mg per lb) once a week. Doses are then increased based on how well the medication is tolerated. Some experts recommend a maximum of 2 mg per dose for children.

People who have liver disease may need to be treated with lower doses of Vincasar PFS. Your healthcare provider may also reduce your amount if you experience potentially serious or severe side effects.
