More Information on Vincasar PFS and Breastfeeding

Vincasar PFS has not been studied in breastfeeding women. Therefore, it is unknown whether the drug passes through breast milk or if it would harm a nursing child.

Although this lack of information is certainly frustrating, it is important to understand that studies of medicines are rarely done in breastfeeding women. This is because such studies could expose an infant, who would otherwise usually not benefit from the medication, to potential problems.

Many medicines pass through breast milk, so it is not unreasonable to assume that Vincasar PFS could pass through breast milk to some extent. This drug is associated with significant side effects, including low white blood cell counts and nerve damage. Because these serious problems might occur in a nursing child, it is generally recommended that women not breastfeed during Vincasar PFS treatment. If you would like to breastfeed after treatment with this drug, talk to your healthcare provider about when it may be safe to do so.
