Can I Buy Generic Vincasar PFS?

Vincasar PFS® (vincristine sulfate) is a prescription medication approved to treat adults and children with certain types of cancer. It is sometimes used in combination with other anticancer medications. It belongs to a group of drugs known as vinca alkaloids.

Vincasar PFS is made by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA. Technically, it is a "branded-generic." This means it has a brand name, but is actually a generic version of another medicine. Vincasar PFS is a generic version of the medication Oncovin®.

Oncovin was originally made by Eli Lilly and Company. Eli Lilly no longer makes Oncovin, and it is no longer available. At this time, vincristine is only available in generic form.

Available Strengths

Generic Vincasar PFS is available in one strength and form: Vincristine 1 mg per mL. It is available in 1-mL and 2-mL vials.

Are Other Generic Vincristine Products Available?

Is Generic Vincristine as Good as Vincasar PFS?

All generic medications must undergo certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generics are equivalent to the brand-name medications and assigns a rating to each one.

An "AP" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic injectable medication is equivalent to a brand-name injectable medication. All the generic vincristine versions, including Vincasar PFS, have an AP rating, meaning they should be equivalent to the brand-name medications.

However, generic medications are allowed to have different inactive ingredients than the brand-name medication. This might include fillers, dyes, or other ingredients that may cause problems for people with allergies or sensitivities.
