Trexall Dosage

The exact amount of Trexall your healthcare provider recommends will depend on how much you weigh, how well you tolerate this drug, and many other factors. For example, when treating psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, your dosage of Trexall may be taken once a week, or it may be split up into three smaller doses, each taken 12 hours apart.

An Introduction to Dosing With Trexall

The dose of Trexall™ (methotrexate) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on several factors, such as:
  • Your age and weight
  • The medical condition being treated
  • How you tolerate this medication.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Trexall Dosage for Psoriasis or Rheumatoid Arthritis

For psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, Trexall is usually taken once a week, either as a single dose or split up into three doses taken every 12 hours. For adults with rheumatoid arthritis, a typical dosage is 7.5 mg once weekly or 2.5 mg every 12 hours for three doses (once weekly).
For adults with psoriasis, a typical dose of Trexall is 10 to 25 mg once weekly or 2.5 mg every 12 hours for three doses (once weekly).
It should be noted that Trexall does not come in 2.5-mg tablets, only 5-mg, 7.5-mg, 10-mg, and 15-mg tablets. For people who take a low 2.5-mg dose, generic methotrexate, which is available in 2.5-mg tablets, is more appropriate.
Make sure you understand your dosing instructions thoroughly, as errors can be quite dangerous. For instance, taking Trexall every day could be fatal if you are only prescribed once-a-week dosing.

Trexall Dose for Cancer

The recommended Trexall dosage for treating cancer can vary significantly, based on the type of cancer, your weight, and how well you tolerate the medication. For some types of cancer, Trexall is given once a week; for other types, it is given cyclically, such as a five-day course of treatment with a week-long (or longer) break between treatments.
