Toremifene Dosage

Available as tablets, toremifene is taken to help slow down the growth of certain types of breast cancer. The dose of toremifene you receive is a standard amount for everyone who uses the drug -- 60 mg taken once a day. Your healthcare provider will monitor you regularly, and treatment may need to be stopped once the cancer has progressed.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Toremifene

There is only one standard recommended dose of toremifene citrate (Fareston®), regardless of your age, weight, or other medical conditions. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Recommended Toremifene Dosing Guidelines

The recommended dosage of toremifene for treating metastatic (spreading) breast cancer in postmenopausal women is 60 mg taken once a day. Your healthcare provider will evaluate your response to the drug regularly and will likely recommend ongoing treatment until your cancer begins to progress.

General Information on Taking Toremifene

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with toremifene include the following:
  • This medication comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth once a day.
  • Toremifene can be taken with or without food. Try taking it with food if it bothers your stomach.
  • You should avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking toremifene, unless your healthcare provider tells you otherwise. Grapefruit juice may increase blood levels of the drug, increasing your risk for side effects.
  • You can take your toremifene dose any time of day, but try to take it at about the same time each day to keep an even level of the drug in your bloodstream.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Toremifene will not work if you stop taking it.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage, please talk with your healthcare provider, nurse, or pharmacist.
