Drug Interactions With Thalidomide

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Thalidomide

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when thalidomide is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alcohol
Drinking alcohol while taking thalidomide may increase your risk for extreme drowsiness. You may not be able to safely drive or perform tasks that require alertness, even if your blood alcohol level is within the legal limit.

Alpha Blockers
Combining thalidomide with an alpha blocker could cause your heart rate to decrease to potentially unsafe levels, which could cause you to feel faint or dizzy. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking thalidomide with an alpha blocker.

Beta Blockers
Taking thalidomide with a beta blocker may cause a low heart rate (bradycardia), which could cause you to feel dizzy or faint. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking thalidomide with a beta blocker.

Calcium Channel Blockers
Combining thalidomide with a calcium channel blocker may increase your risk for a low heartbeat (bradycardia), which could cause dizziness and fainting. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Biologic and Immunologic Medications
Taking thalidomide with other medications that suppress the immune system may increase the risk for certain side effects, especially potentially serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together, as some of these medicines should not be used in combination with thalidomide.

Clozapine
Taking clozapine with thalidomide may increase the risk of dangerously low white blood cells, which would increase your risk for infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together. However, do not stop taking clozapine without first speaking with your healthcare provider.
