Depakote and Temodar

Although Temodar® (temozolomide) can be an effective chemotherapy medication for many people, this drug is not suitable for everyone. Your healthcare provider will need to know about all other vitamins, herbal supplements, and prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking before you can start Temodar treatment. Potentially serious drug interactions can occur if Temodar is used in combination with certain products.

For example, people who are using Depakote® (divalproex) may not be able to use Temodar safely. Depakote is a type of valproate medication and may increase blood levels of Temodar. This could increase your risk for Temodar side effects, particularly low blood cell counts and liver problems. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely.
