Retinoblastoma Questions to Ask Before Radiation Therapy

Some questions you may want to ask your doctor about radiation therapy as a retinoblastoma treatment include:
 
  • What is the goal of this treatment?
  • How will the retinoblastoma radiation be administered?
  • Will my child need to stay in the hospital? For how long?
  • When will the treatments begin? When will they end?
  • How will my child feel during therapy? Are there side effects?
  • How will we know if the radiation therapy is working?
  • Will my child be able to continue his or her normal activities during treatment?
  • Will follow-up visits be necessary?

You may want to ask your doctor the following questions concerning chemotherapy as a retinoblastoma treatment:
 
  • Why does my child need this treatment?
  • What drugs will my child receive? How will they be given? What will they do?
  • Will my child have side effects? What can we do about them?
  • How long will my child be on this treatment?
  • How often will my child need checkups?
