Retinoblastoma is a type of eye cancer that most commonly affects children under the age of five years old. In a person with this type of cancer, the pupil of the eye may appear white instead of red when light shines into it, the eyes may appear to be looking in different directions (crossed eyes), and pain or redness in the eye may be present. A child who has hereditary retinoblastoma is at risk for developing other types of cancer in later years.
