Rasburicase is a drug used to help control uric acid levels in people undergoing certain types of chemotherapy. This prescription medicine comes as an injection that is given slowly into a vein once a day for up to five days. People who have certain allergies, a history of blood problems, or certain other medical conditions may not be able to safely use this drug.
Rasburicase (Elitek®) is a prescription medication approved to manage uric acid levels in adults and children being treated for certain types of cancer. Some cancer treatment can increase uric acid levels in the blood, and rasburicase is used to prevent or treat this increase in uric acid.

Just like any medicine, rasburicase can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, many people tolerate it quite well. If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
Common rasburicase side effects include but are not limited to:
- Swelling due to fluid retention (edema)
- Abdominal (stomach) pain.
