Rasburicase Dosage

The specific rasburicase dosage your healthcare provider prescribes is usually dependent on your weight and uric acid levels. Rasburicase is given as a slow injection into a vein (intravenously, or by IV) once a day for up to five days. You may also receive other IV fluids to keep you hydrated.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Rasburicase

The dosage of rasburicase (Elitek®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on your weight. The number of doses you receive may also vary, depending on your clinical situation, such as your uric acid levels.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Recommended Rasburicase Dosing Guidelines

The usual recommended dosage of rasburicase for managing uric acid levels in children and adults receiving cancer treatment is rasburicase 0.2 mg per kg body weight (about 0.09 mg per lb), given daily for up to 5 days. In many cases, one dose is enough. Your healthcare provider will determine how many doses you need. It is recommended that rasburicase not be used for more than five days or for more than one treatment course.

When used to prevent high uric acid levels, the first dose of rasburicase is normally given 4 to 24 hours before starting chemotherapy.
