Cancer and Pentostatin

Adults who have a certain type of cancer may receive pentostatin (Nipent®). It is specifically approved to treat a rare form of cancer called hairy cell leukemia. This prescription drug is used when this cancer is active, which means there are symptoms or significantly low blood cell counts.
 
Pentostatin works by interfering with the way DNA replicates. Because cells need DNA to grow and divide, this medication can prevent the growth of cancer cells.
