Pazopanib and Thyroid Cancer

Approved only for use in adults,
pazopanib (Votrient®) is prescribed to help treat advanced renal cell carcinoma, the most common type of kidney cancer. It is also approved to treat advanced soft tissue sarcoma, a type of cancer of soft tissues, such as muscle, blood vessels, nerves, and fat. However, there are times when a healthcare provider may prescribe this drug for an off-label (unapproved) use. For example, pazopanib can be prescribed off-label to treat thyroid cancer.

This medicine works by blocking an enzyme in the body that tells cancer cells to grow and divide. By blocking this enzyme, pazopanib can help slow down the growth of cancer cells.
