Oxaliplatin and Cancer

If you have a certain type of cancer, oxaliplatin (Eloxatin®) may help slow down the growth and spread of the disease. Specifically, oxaliplatin is approved to treat advanced colorectal cancer and stage III colon cancer, after surgery to remove the tumor. It is approved for use in adults only and must be used in combination with certain other medications.

As a type of platinum-based medicine, oxaliplatin works by binding together strands of DNA within the cells, including cancer cells. This prevents the cells from multiplying, which can stop the growth and spread of the cancer.
