Neulasta® is a prescription medication that is licensed to prevent infections due to chemotherapy. It comes as an injection that is given once per chemotherapy cycle. By binding to stem cells and stimulating the production of certain white blood cells, the drug can help prevent bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. At this time, the product is not available in generic form.
 
As with any medication, side effects are a possibility. Common side effects of the medicine include bone pain, headache, muscle pain, and joint pain. Neulasta is not recommended for infants, children, and smaller adolescents weighing less than 99 pounds.
