Mutamycin Uses

Available by prescription only, Mutamycin is used for the treatment of stomach or pancreatic cancer in adults. It is specifically used when the cancer has spread to other areas of the body and has not responded to other types of treatment. This chemotherapy medicine works to slow down the progression of cancer by interfering with how cancer cells grow and divide.

There are a variety of treatment options available for someone with stomach cancer. Your healthcare provider will take several factors into consideration before recommending treatment, including the stage and extent of the cancer (see Stomach Cancer Stage) and your overall health.

Most people with stomach cancer have surgery to remove the cancer (see Stomach Cancer Surgery). Chemotherapy or radiation therapy may be used in addition to surgery to help improve the likelihood of a cure, or in people for whom surgery is not an option.

Mutamycin is a type of chemotherapy. It is used when the cancer has spread throughout the stomach or to other areas of the body. The drug is not a cure for stomach cancer, but it may be able to improve symptoms or slow down the progression of the disease. Treatment that is aimed at reducing symptoms rather than curing a condition is known as palliative treatment.
