Cancer and Mitozytrex

Mutamycin® (mitomycin) is a medication available by prescription only and approved to treat stomach or pancreatic cancer in adults. This chemotherapy drug works to treat these cancers by preventing DNA from replicating, which is necessary for cancer cells to divide. Because DNA must replicate to divide, Mutamycin slows down the growth of cancer cells, and may even cause the cancer cells to die.

Mutamycin was originally made by Bristol-Myers. However, it is no longer manufactured and is not available. The medication was also previously available under the brand name Mitozytrex™, which was made by Supergen, Inc. Mitozytrex is also no longer available. Mutamycin is now only available in generic form, and is made by a few different companies.
