Multiple Myeloma Research
In an attempt to better understand and treat multiple myeloma, research is being conducted all over the country. Scientists are studying how certain anticancer drugs and combinations of drugs may be used to improve treatment of multiple myeloma. Other research is being done to find ways to improve stem cell transplantation for people with the cancer.
Doctors and scientists all over the country are conducting research on multiple myeloma. Research studies are designed to answer important questions and to find out whether new approaches are safe and effective. Already, research has led to many advances, and researchers are continuing to search for more effective methods of dealing with multiple myeloma.
Researchers are currently studying the following:
- Anticancer drugs
- Drug combinations
- Ways to improve stem cell transplantation for people with multiple myeloma.
In order for research to be conducted, volunteers are needed. Patients who join research studies for multiple myeloma will have the first chance to benefit from treatments that have shown promise in earlier research. Patients who volunteer will also make an important contribution to medical science by helping doctors learn more about multiple myeloma. Although research trials may pose some risks, researchers take careful steps to protect their patients.
