Drug Interactions With Morphine Sulfate/Naltrexone Hydrochloride

Antipsychotic Medications
Combining an antipsychotic medication with morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may occur. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride with an antipsychotic medication.
 
Barbiturates
Combining a barbiturate with morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may occur. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride with a barbiturate.
 
Benzodiazepines
Taking morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride in combination with a benzodiazepine might increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may occur. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride with any benzodiazepines.
 
Cimetidine
There is one report of confusion and severe breathing difficulty in a person who combined cimetidine with morphine (the active ingredient in morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride). It is not clear if cimetidine interacts with morphine. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
 
Diuretics
Morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride may reduce the effectiveness of diuretics. Additionally, in men with an enlarged prostate, this combination of medications may lead to severe difficulty passing urine.
 
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Combining morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride with an MAOI can cause serious reactions. Do not use morphine sulfate/naltrexone hydrochloride and an MAOI within 14 days of each other.
