Cancer Home > Oxaliplatin in Older Patients

Oxaliplatin (Eloxatin®) is licensed for the treatment of colon and rectal cancer in adults. But can older patients also receive oxaliplatin?

Although older adults can use this medicine, they may have an increased risk for certain side effects, such as:

  • Severe low white blood cell counts (which may increase the risk for infection)
  • Diarrhea
  • Dehydration
  • Unconsciousness.
