Adults who have chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) may benefit from treatment with omacetaxine. This prescription drug is reserved for use after at least two other medications have been unsuccessful. It is given as an injection just under the skin twice daily for 7 to 14 days. Your dosage will depend on your height and weight, among other factors.
- Decrease in white blood cells, which could increase the risk for infections
- Decrease in red blood cells, which could cause anemia
- Decrease in platelets, which could increase the risk for bleeding
