Before you start chemotherapy treatment with irinotecan, make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other prescription or nonprescription medications you are taking, as well as any vitamins or herbal supplements. Negative interactions can occur if irinotecan is combined with certain drugs and other products, including live vaccines, St. John's wort, or echinacea. Some of these reactions can lead to infections, breathing problems, and other serious complications.

An Overview of Irinotecan Interactions

Irinotecan (Camptosar®) can potentially interact with a number of other medications. The medications that can lead to reactions with irinotecan include but are not limited to:
  • Amphotericin B (Abelcet®, AmBisome®, Amphotec®)
  • Certain biologic and immunologic mediations, such as:
