Cancer Home > Generic Eulexin

Because the brand-name version is no longer available, Eulexin (flutamide) is only available in generic form. It comes in one strength and formula, and has been given an "AB" rating by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which means the generic formulation is considered equivalent to the brand-name product.

Can I Buy Generic Eulexin?

Eulexin® (flutamide) is a prescription medication used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It is used in combination with another prostate cancer medicine, such as goserelin acetate implant (Zoladex®) or leuprolide (Eligard®, Lupron®, Lupron Depot®).

Brand-name Eulexin used to be manufactured by Schering Corporation. Schering no longer makes this drug. However, it is available as a generic medication.

Is Generic Flutamide as Good as Eulexin?

All generic medications must undergo certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generics are equivalent to the brand-name medications and assigns a rating to each one.

An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name medication. All of the generic versions of Eulexin currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Eulexin.

However, generic medications are allowed to have different inactive ingredients than the brand-name medication. This might include fillers, dyes, or other ingredients that may cause problems for people with allergies or sensitivities.
