Cancer Home > Drug Interactions With Cladribine
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when cladribine is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Combining cladribine with amphotericin B could increase your risk for amphotericin B side effects, such as kidney damage, low blood pressure (hypotension), and lung problems. Your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely for these side effects if you use amphotericin B with cladribine.
Using clozapine and cladribine together may increase the risk of dangerously low white blood cells, which could lead to serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking clozapine during cladribine treatment. However, do not stop taking clozapine unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Biologic and Immunologic Medications
Combining cladribine with biologic and immunologic medications that suppress the immune system could increase your risk for potentially serious side effects, including low blood cell counts and infections. Cladribine should not be used in combination with some biologic or immunologic medicines, while other combinations will require careful monitoring.
Echinacea may decrease the effectiveness of cladribine. Do not take echinacea during cladribine treatment without your healthcare provider's approval.
People who are receiving chemotherapy are generally advised to avoid getting a live vaccine. This is because live vaccines contain live viruses or bacteria. Because cladribine can decrease the body's immune response, you could become infected with the virus or bacteria used to make the vaccine. Also, live vaccines may be less effective in people using cladribine. You should not receive a live vaccine during cladribine treatment.
Combining roflumilast with cladribine could increase your risk for developing an infection. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using these medicines together.
Cladribine may decrease the effectiveness of sipuleucel-T. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using these medicines together.
