The medication Nucynta® ER (tapentadol ER) is prescribed for the treatment of moderate-to-severe pain when around-the-clock pain relief is needed. It is a type of opioid narcotic and is prescribed for long-term use in adults.
Nucynta ER works in the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), acts much like morphine in the body, and relieves pain. It also works in a similar way as some antidepressant medications, by affecting certain chemicals that help send messages from one nerve cell to another.
Information your healthcare provider needs when prescribing Nucynta ER includes a list of all other medicines you are taking, including nonprescription drugs and supplements, and any other medical conditions you have. This medicine does have a high potential for abuse and may not be appropriate for certain people, including those who have a history of drug or alcohol abuse.
