Cancer Home > What Is Cabazitaxel Used For?

How Does Cabazitaxel Work?

Cabazitaxel belongs to a group of medications called taxanes. Taxanes stop cancer cells from growing and multiplying by interfering with certain structures in the cell.
Although cabazitaxel can kill both healthy and cancerous cells, it has a greater effect on cells that are multiplying rapidly. Generally, cancer cells multiply more rapidly than healthy cells and are, therefore, more affected by cabazitaxel.

Is It Safe for Use in Children?

Cabazitaxel has not been adequately studied in children or adolescents under the age of 18. It is not known if this medication is safe or effective for use in children.

Is Cabazitaxel Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for something other than the condition discussed in this article. Using cabazitaxel for treating other types of cancer or in combination with other types of chemotherapy would be off-label uses.
