Cancer Home > Abstral Warnings and Precautions

Who Should Not Take Abstral?

You should avoid Abstral if you:
  • Are allergic to it, to fentanyl, or to any of the inactive components used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
  • Have not already been taking regularly scheduled opioid pain medication and are not opioid tolerant (your body is not used to taking opioid medications regularly).
  • Need pain medication only for acute pain (short-term pain), including surgery pain, dental pain, headache or migraine pain, or pain in the emergency room setting.

Final Thoughts

There are a number of situations in which this medication should not be used, along with several safety concerns people should be aware of before beginning treatment. However, it is possible that not all of these issues were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your healthcare provider about the specific Abstral warnings and precautions that may apply to you.
