Liver Cancer Statistics

When it comes to liver cancer, statistics can help provide a better understanding of the disease and its impact. The American Cancer Society estimated that 18,510 people would be diagnosed with liver cancer in the United States during 2006. According to liver cancer statistics, 1 out of 153 people born today will be diagnosed with liver cancer at some point in their lifetime. Other statistics concerning liver cancer indicate that the average age at which a person is diagnosed was 66 and the average age of death from liver cancer was 71 in 1998-2002.

Liver Cancer Statistics: 2006 Estimates

The American Cancer Society estimates that 18,510 men and women (12,600 men and 5,910 women) will be diagnosed with liver cancer and that 16,200 men and women will die of liver cancer in 2006.
 

Statistics Regarding a Diagnosis of Liver Cancer

From 1998-2002, the average age of people diagnosed with liver cancer was 66.
 
The percentages of people diagnosed with liver cancer based on age were as follows:
 
  • 1.2 percent were diagnosed under age 20
  • 1.2 percent were diagnosed between 20 and 34
  • 4.2 percent were diagnosed between 35 and 44
  • 18.2 percent were diagnosed between 45 and 54
  • 21.0 percent were diagnosed between 55 and 64
  • 26.4 percent were diagnosed between 65 and 74
  • 21.2 percent were diagnosed between 75 and 84
  • 6.6 percent were diagnosed at 85 years of age or older.
