Liposomal Vincristine Side Effects

A number of side effects can occur with liposomal vincristine, with constipation, fatigue, and nausea as some of the most commonly reported problems. Studies have shown that most people who receive this chemotherapy drug do develop some type of side effect. Because some reactions are potentially dangerous, seek medical treatment if you develop an infection, blood in your urine, or difficulty breathing.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Liposomal Vincristine

Just like other chemotherapy medications, liposomal vincristine sulfate (Marqibo®) can cause side effects. In fact, most people will experience some type of reaction to this drug, and some side effects can be quite significant. Talk to your healthcare provider about ways to prevent or lessen reactions to this medicine.

Serious Liposomal Vincristine Side Effects

Some side effects of liposomal vincristine are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
   
  • Signs of anemia, such as:
    • Unusual tiredness
    • Weakness
    • Pale skin
    • Shortness of breath
 
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Black, tarry, or bloody stools
  • Blood in the urine
  • Constipation or a change in how often you have bowel movements
  • Abdominal (stomach) pain, fullness, or bloating
  • Muscle spasms or weakness
  • Weakness in the hands or feet
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Feelings of numbness, tingling, pain, burning, or other unusual sensations of the hands or feet
  • Changes in how sensitive your skin is to touch, heat, cold, or pain
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Difficulty walking, standing, or speaking
  • Slapping or drooping of the front part of the foot when walking
  • Decreased reflexes
  • Pain in your jaw, face, or head
  • Difficulty urinating
  • An irregular heartbeat
  • Persistent or extreme tiredness or fatigue
  • Persistent or severe diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice)
  • Confusion
  • Pain, burning, redness, or irritation at the site of the injection
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling, especially of the mouth, lips, or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
