Lazanda Warnings and Precautions

When using Lazanda for treating breakthrough cancer pain, it is important that your healthcare provider knows if you have liver disease, breathing problems, or a history of a seizure. Also, this pain medicine can cause drug interactions, so tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including nonprescription products. Other precautions and warnings with Lazanda apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Lazanda® (fentanyl nasal spray) if you have:
  • Past or present drug or alcohol dependence or abuse problems
  • Liver disease, such as cirrhosis, liver failure, or hepatitis
  • Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure)
  • Breathing problems, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or shortness of breath
  • A head injury, brain tumor, or increased pressure around the brain
  • A history of a seizure
  • A low heart rate or abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Not already been taking a regularly scheduled opioid medication
  • Mental health conditions, such as depression or schizophrenia
  • Any allergies, including to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
  • Breastfeeding
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant.
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
