When you leave the recovery room, you will move to a regular hospital room. Here your family and friends can visit you at the scheduled visiting times.
You will probably be in the hospital for 1 to 3 days after your surgery. Some people need to stay longer. The time you spend in the hospital depends on how well your surgery went and how well you are healing. Your healthcare provider will regularly talk to you and your family about your progress.
You will start to drink clear liquids, like water and juice, on the day after your surgery. You can't have regular food until you pass gas. When you pass gas it shows that your bowels are working right.
The catheter in your bladder will be taken out the day after your surgery. If your ovaries were taken out, you might start hormone therapy on the first day after the surgery. You may want to talk with your doctor about hormone therapy, if you are having your ovaries taken out.
