Irinotecan Chemo Drug

If you have cancer of the colon or rectum, your healthcare provider may prescribe irinotecan (Camptosar®). This chemotherapy drug is approved for treating colon or rectal cancer that has spread to other areas of the body. It can be used alone or in combination with other chemotherapy medications.

Irinotecan is administered intravenously (by IV) by a healthcare provider every one to three weeks. Your dosage will depend on various factors, such as your height and weight, other medications you are taking, and how you respond to the drug.

Although some people do not have any problems with this medicine, most people will have some type of reaction while undergoing chemotherapy treatment with irinotecan. Some of the most commonly reported problems include diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
