imatinib mesylate (Gleevec^®), keep in mind that it can react with certain drugs. For example, imatinib can interact with certain statin medications, such as:

Lovastatin (Altoprev^®, Mevacor^®) or combination medications that contain lovastatin (Advicor^®)
Simvastatin (Zocor^®) or combination medications that contain simvastatin (Vytorin^® or Simcor^®).

If simvastatin and imatinib are combined, blood levels of the statin drug may be increased, which increases a person's risk for potentially serious side effects affecting the muscles. In general, these medications should not be combined.
