Cancer and Ifosfamide

As a type of chemotherapy drug, ifosfamide (Ifex®) is approved for use in combination with other chemotherapy medicines to treat testicular cancer (cancer of the testicles). It is prescribed for adult men only; however, there may be occasions where a healthcare provider prescribes this drug off-label for use in women -- for example, the treatment of breast cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer.

Ifosfamide belongs to a group of medicines known as alkylating agents. It works by preventing DNA strands from replicating. As a result, cancer cells are unable to grow and multiply correctly.
