Hodgkin's Disease Treatment (Cont.)

Getting a Second Opinion About Hodgkin's Disease Treatment

Before starting treatment, you might want a second opinion about your diagnosis and the Hodgkin's disease treatment plan.

It is a good idea to get a second opinion about the type of lymphoma that you have, because the treatment plan varies by the type of lymphoma. A pathologist at a major referral center can review your biopsy.

You also may want a second opinion about your Hodgkin's disease treatment plan. Many insurance companies cover a second opinion if you or your doctor requests it. It may take some time and effort to gather your medical records and arrange to see another doctor. Most of the time, it is not a problem to take several weeks to get a second opinion. The delay in starting Hodgkin's disease treatment usually will not make treatment less effective. However, to be sure, you should discuss this delay with your doctor. Some people with Hodgkin's disease need treatment right away.
