What Is the Histrelin Implant?
The histrelin implant (Supprelin
® LA,
Vantas®) is a prescription hormone medication that is inserted just beneath the skin, where it continuously releases medicine into the body for an entire year. It is approved to treat advanced
prostate cancer in men (Vantas) and early onset puberty (known medically as central precocious puberty) in children (
Supprelin LA).
Just like any medicine, a histrelin implant may cause side effects.
However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Common side effects of the histrelin implant include but are not limited to:
- Hot flushes
- Reactions at the implant site
- Fatigue
- Pain.
