Benefits of Green Tea

How Does Green Tea Work?

There are numerous known active components in green tea. Green tea contains several different polyphenols. Polyphenols may have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. Although it is often claimed that green tea has more polyphenols than black tea, this claim has not been clearly substantiated. Green tea also contains caffeine, which is why green tea may increase alertness (but may also cause some of the side effects of green tea).

Green Tea Benefits in Children

Green tea is safe for children when consumed in normal food amounts. However, it is not clear whether green tea supplements are safe for use in children. Do not give your child green tea supplements without the approval of your child's healthcare provider. Remember that green tea contains caffeine.
