Fludarabine Side Effect Marrow Suppression

As with many other chemotherapy drugs, fludarabine phosphate (Fludara®) can cause a dangerous condition called bone marrow suppression. This occurs when the bone marrow is no longer able to make sufficient amounts of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. When this happens, it significantly increases your risk for life-threatening infections, anemia, and bleeding problems.

Make sure to contact your healthcare provider right away if you are receiving fludarabine and develop any symptoms of bone marrow suppression, such as:

  • Fever
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Any unusual bleeding or bruising.
