Fludarabine Dosage

The recommended fludarabine dosage will be different for each person, depending on his or her height and weight, how well the medicine is tolerated, and a number of other factors. This prescription drug comes as an injection that is given into a vein (intravenously, or by IV). The usual recommended dosing regimen calls for the medicine to be given daily for 5 days in a row, every 28 days.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Fludarabine

The dosage of fludarabine phosphate (Fludara®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, such as:

  • Your height and weight
  • How you tolerate the medication
  • How you respond to the medication
  • Your kidney function.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Recommended Fludarabine Dosing Guidelines

Like many chemotherapy medicines, fludarabine doses are normally based on body surface area, which is calculated using your height and weight. Doses based on body surface area are written as milligram per meter squared (mg per m2).

The usual recommended dosage of fludarabine for the treatment of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia is 25 mg per m2 once a day for 5 days in a row. This 5-day treatment course is repeated every 28 days, as long as serious side effects are not present and the medication is still working. Your healthcare provider will monitor your progress, and determine how long you will need treatment.

Older adults, people with kidney disease, and those who have significant bone marrow depression may need to be treated with lower fludarabine doses. Your healthcare provider may also decrease your amount, recommend you take a longer break between doses, or stop treatment altogether if you experience potentially serious fludarabine side effects during treatment.
