Drug Interactions With Fludarabine

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Fludarabine

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when fludarabine is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Amphotericin B
Combining fludarabine with amphotericin B could increase your risk for amphotericin B side effects, including kidney damage, low blood pressure (hypotension), and lung problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you use these medicines together.

Certain Immunosuppressant Medications
Combining fludarabine with other medicines that suppress the immune system could cause extremely low blood cell counts, increasing the risk for side effects, such as anemia, infections, and bleeding problems. Fludarabine should not be used in combination with certain immunosuppressants, while other combinations will require close monitoring.

Clozapine
Using clozapine and fludarabine together may increase the risk for dangerously low white blood cell counts and potentially life-threatening infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking clozapine during fludarabine treatment. However, do not stop taking clozapine unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Echinacea
Echinacea may decrease the effectiveness of fludarabine. Do not take echinacea during fludarabine treatment without your healthcare provider's approval.

Imatinib
Imatinib can decrease blood levels of fludarabine, potentially decreasing the drug's effectiveness. To reduce the risk for this reaction, it is recommended that imatinib be stopped at least five days before fludarabine treatment. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential reaction before you receive fludarabine if you are currently taking imatinib.

Live Vaccinations
Live vaccines are vaccines that contain live viruses or bacteria. If you receive a live vaccine during fludarabine treatment, you could become infected with the virus or bacteria used to make the vaccine. Also, live vaccines may be less effective in people receiving fludarabine. You should not receive a live vaccine during fludarabine treatment.

Pentostatin
Taking pentostatin in combination with fludarabine may increase the risk for life-threatening lung damage. These medications should not be used together.

Roflumilast
Combining roflumilast with fludarabine could increase your risk for developing an infection. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using these medicines together.

Sipuleucel-T
Fludarabine may decrease the effectiveness of sipuleucel-T. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using these medicines together. If you use these medicines together, your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely to make sure you are adequately responding to sipuleucel-T.
