Cancer and Etoposide Phosphate

A healthcare provider may prescribe etoposide phosphate (Etopophos®) in combination with other chemotherapy drugs to treat certain types of cancer in adults. Specifically, etoposide phosphate is approved to treat small cell lung cancer. It is also approved to treat testicular tumors (cancer of the testicles) that have returned or become worse after previous treatment with other chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation treatment.

Etoposide phosphate works to treat these types of cancer by binding to certain enzymes. This action can cause some DNA strands to break, preventing cancer cells from dividing.
