Drug Interactions With Erlotinib

H2 blockers
H2 blockers may decrease the amount of erlotinib absorbed from the stomach into the body, which could decrease its effectiveness. If you need an H2 blocker during erlotinib treatment, take your erlotinib dose 10 hours after an H2 blocker, but also at least 2 hours before the next H2 blocker dose.

Medications That Thin the Blood
Combining erlotinib with blood thinners may increase the risk for bleeding, including bleeding in the stomach and intestines. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely if you take erlotinib with a medication that thins the blood.

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI)
People taking erlotinib should not use a PPI, because PPIs decrease the amount of erlotinib absorbed from the stomach into the bloodstream. This could make erlotinib less effective. If you need a medication for heartburn or indigestion during erlotinib treatment, an antacid or H2 blocker is preferred, as long as the doses are separated as described earlier.
