Based on your past medical history, physical exam and current symptoms, your doctor is recommending that you have a diagnostic procedure called Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography, or the easier name: ERCP.
ERCP is often done to evaluate symptoms of abdominal pain, weight loss, or jaundice, which is yellowing of the skin. It may also be done because you have had abnormal x-rays, ultrasound results or blood tests.
ERCP allows your doctor to examine your liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and bile ducts.
Through this procedure, your doctor can discover if and where problems exist in these areas and discuss with you the best options for further treatment.
