Drug Interactions With Epirubicin (Cont.)

Epirubicin Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when epirubicin is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Certain Calcium Channel Blockers
Combining certain calcium channel blockers with epirubicin may increase the risk of epirubicin side effects, particularly side effects that affect the heart. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Combining epirubicin and cimetidine can increase the level of epirubicin in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. You should not take cimetidine (including over-the-counter cimetidine products) while receiving epirubicin chemotherapy.

Live Vaccinations
Because chemotherapy (including epirubicin) can suppress the immune system, it is generally best to avoid live vaccinations while receiving chemotherapy.

Trastuzumab (Herceptin)
Taking trastuzumab with epirubicin can increase your risk of congestive heart failure (CHF). Generally, these medications should not be taken together.
